For this picture, we had to use all the tools we learnt today. We copied and paste the mask and the lighting sign onto the picture of Singa. We also had to change the colour of Singa's shirt. I had to use the Magic Wand tool to trace the outline of the shirt and change the colour to black. As for the mask, I just changed the size and position to make it fit into Singa's face. I think today has really helped me familiarise with Photoshop and some of its tools.
CLASSROOM LINES
This are lines on my pencil case. The lines intersect each others forming a checkered pattern.
CLASSROOM FRAMES
This is a picture taken using the frame method in the classroom. The subject is the lines of the building opposite.
Firstly, the first two drawings of the elephant and Kungfu Panda were first drawn by sketching the outline of their bodies. Before I started drawing,I had to plan the proportion of the body parts of the two characters. After that,I darkened the outline of the characters and did some shading. That’s how I got the final drawing.

Photoshop
For this week, we photoshopped a woman into the background of a beach. We used the magnetic lasso tool to select the outline of the woman. We also used the feather tool to make the edges of the outline more smooth. I think I'm getting better at Photoshop through the many practices we had during Visual Communication lessons.I think that I should also use the lasso tool to select the white spaces between the hair to make it more realistic.
Photoshop Homework
This was my homework for the week. We were supposed to photoshop 3 objects or characters into a background. Thus, I chose a setting in a street. As for the characters, I chose Patrick Star and another one of my idols. I selected the outline of all 3 characters using the magnetic lasso tool and cut and pasted them onto this street. One way I can improve is to create a shadow to make the picture seem more realistic.
Colouration in Photoshop
This is the before and after of an old photo. I used the hue/saturation tool and also the colour balance tool to get the photo to look like it's not a very old photo, but a little more recent. This exercise has helped me to be more familiar with the colour balance and hue/saturation tool in Photoshop.
Photoshop
For this lesson, we photoshopped objects and characters into a different background. For the first picture, we photoshopped animals, birds and insects into a picture of a pond. We learnt how to use the opacity tool and scale tool. We also learnt how to rotate the characters.
As for the second picture,we used a picture of a piece of crumpled paper and made it blend with the car to make it seem that the car is crumpled. We also used the opacity tool for this picture.
For the third picture, i edited Spongebob and a shark into the fish tank with the goldfish and changed the colour of the water. I change the colour of the water by changing the settings in Hue/Saturation. Next, I selected the picture of Spongebob and the shark and inversed both of it and cut and pasted it into the tank, to get the final picture.
For the last picture, Using a background that I chose, I made a polariod sized box with the rectangular tool and pasted a picture of my idol onto it. I also made a short caption there. I also used the drop shadow tool on the picture.

Photoshop
This is a picture of my classmate, Galen. I took a picture of him and myself and using Photoshop, I exchanged his hair with mine. I had to use the Lasso tool to cut the outline of my hair and copied it. After that, I pasted my hair onto his picture. I also used the clone stamp to make the colours of the hair seem fitting. I have to get more used to the clone stamp to make his face fit with my hair. I think this is not bad for my first try and I'm sure I can improve even further with practice.
Photoshop
Today, we learnt how to use Photoshop. Our first task was to edit the colour and sharpen our own pictures to make it look better. I decided to use a picture that I took with my classmates and edited it. The first picture is the one which is edited. Use the curve function, I tried to make the brightness in the picture to increase. I also tried to sharpen the image too. This was a good practice as it allowed us to familiarise with the basic tools in Photoshop.
This picture was formed by photoshopping the mascot into the street in Singapore Polytechnic. We had to use the Magic Wand tool and inverse it so that we can copy the mascot and paste it on the picture of the street. I used the scale function to create and change the size of the exact same mascot. As for the shadow caused by the mascot, I drew it with the brush tool.

Adobe Illustrator
For the first picture, we tried to draw the character based on a type of facial expression, hair and body. I drew the girl with a hat on her head on the right of the picture. For this drawing, we had to make use of layers and by tracing the body, hair and facial expression that we chose. We overlap the shapes by using layers. This practice helps us to get familiar with the layers function, which will aid us in our drawing for our CA.
For the second picture, we made use of the Ellipse tool and text tool in Illustrator. We duplicated the circle by pressing the option key and dragging the mouse. We got an exact circle and we changed the scale to 80% and changed the colour. After that, we moved it into the middle of the initial circle and continued doing the same routine. We did the same for the words too. For the star int he middle, we made use of the Star tool in Illustrator.
Adobe Illustrator Homework
This is our homework. We had to trace the penguin and Hello Kitty. I tried to follow the initial picture by creating shapes for the different shades. We used the eyedropper tool and the layer function to copy the colour of the different parts of the characters. I think this practice really helped me to familiarise with the layers function, eyedropper tool and line drawing.

Adobe Illustrator
Today, we first traced the national games mascot. We learnt once again how to set layers and lock them, so that we can move the different layers around when we need to. We also downloaded fonts and tried to use adobe illustrator to edit the words "Visual Communication". We also learnt about the create anchor point tool to create another anchor and allow us to draw lines from a new point.
Adobe Illustrator
This week we did tracing of shapes and logos. Using Adobe Illustrator, we traced shapes and logos like apple, McDonald and Nike.We learnt how to trace using the pen tool.Furthermore, we learnt about how to change the strokes, colour and also set layers to help us trace better.
Fashion Moodboard
This is the fashion moodboard that i did.It consists of denim themed outfits, high heel boots, bracelets and a floral headband.I think these are some of the latest trends among teens nowadays.I think all these fit well into an outfit altogether.
Lines, Frames, Balance, Rule of Third, Simplicity
CLASSROOM LINES
This are lines on my pencil case. The lines intersect each others forming a checkered pattern.
CLASSROOM FRAMES
This is a picture taken using the frame method in the classroom. The subject is the lines of the building opposite.
CLASSROOM BALANCE
This is a picture of balance.A boy and a girl of the same height side by side shows balance.
CLASSROOM RULE OF THIRD
This picture is taken using the rule of third method with my classmate as the subject.
CLASSROOM SIMPLICITY
Simplicity. The EXIT sign is simple and the colour makes it stand out amongst the surrounding.
SP BALANCE
The two handles are balanced and symmetrical vertically.
SP FRAMES
This is a picture taken with the frame method. The subjects are the windows on the opposite block.
SP SIMPLICITY
The light is simple yet outstanding in the photo.
SP LINES
These are lines taken from the leaves off a tree near McDonalds.
SP RULE OF THIRD
The bin follows the rule of third as it is placed on the 1/3 line of the photo.
Balance,Gradation,Repetition,Contrast,Harmony,Dominance and Unity
This pictures represent balance, gradation, repetition, contrast, harmony, dominance and unity in graphic designs respectively.
Balance:The butterfly is balanced due to its symmetry. If you cut the butterfly into half vertically, you will get see that both the right and left side of the butterfly is symmetrical.
Gradation:The changes in colour throughout the picture shows the gradation in colours.
Repetition:This picture shows a repetition of Marilyn Monroe. Her face is repeated in 9 tiles of the picture.
Contrast:The contrast in this picture is the between the caption and the colours.Black versus white and The Dream versus The Reality.
Harmony:As you can see from the picture, although the picture is coloured in different colours throughout the picture, the picture still forms a perfect picture where everything fits together
Dominance:The sun in the middle of the picture attracts our attention as soon as we see this picture. Therefore the orange sun dominants this picture.
Unity:The four hands together shows unity and teamwork.
Textures and Perspectives
The first assignment of the day was to draw textures.Firstly,we had to draw a texture that represented us,followed by textures of our surrounding and then futuristic/modern creative texture.
The first texture represented me as an individual as it comprises of many shapes and these shapes are not arranged in a orderly sequence.I think it represents me as a complicated yet simple individual who doesn’t like routines or sequences.
The second texture was inspired by my friend who was sitting in front of me.The texture was actually her wavy hair. And as for the third texture,I drew something like a checker board and shaded some of the tiles. This gives off somewhat of a digital feel to the picture.
Next, for the second assignment,I took a picture of the auditorium sign taken from its back.I think this shows the one of the different perspectives of the sign which can be seen.Following that picture is a drawing of the auditorium sign from its back view.I shaded some parts of the letters to clearly show a 3-Dimensional effect.
First Lesson Of Visual Communication
Firstly, the first two drawings of the elephant and Kungfu Panda were first drawn by sketching the outline of their bodies. Before I started drawing,I had to plan the proportion of the body parts of the two characters. After that,I darkened the outline of the characters and did some shading. That’s how I got the final drawing.
For this figurine drawing, sketching the shapes was essential as this figurine is mostly made up by shapes. After sketching the shapes, darken the lines of the outline of the figurine to get this.
Now,for the rose.Actually, the rose should be upside down. But I took the picture of the rose upright.Anyway, once again,I sketched before darkening the outline of the rose.I also applied different pressure on different parts of the rose to make the rose seem more realistic.
This is my sketch of a dog.I didn’t really darken the outline of the dog due to the lack of time.Maybe it was because i took too long to draw the dog! However, the rough lines made the drawing more life-like mainly because it resembles the dog’s fur.Sometimes, not erasing the rough lines can make the drawing look more realistic.
Finally, the last drawing.I drew my classmate/partner,Vinny.For this drawing,I concentrated more on the outline of her as well as the shape of the pattern on her shirt, the collar and as well as her watch.I think if I added more details like her facial features and the more detailed pattern on her shirt.
And that is the end for Week 1’s Visual communication lesson.
